Why We Choose Soy Wax at Fair Dinkum Scents

When we first started Fair Dinkum Scents, one of the biggest decisions we had to make was what type of wax to use.

There are plenty of excellent candle makers using both soy wax and paraffin wax, and both have their place in the industry.

For us, though, the decision was simple.

We wanted to create candles that we'd be happy to burn in our own home every single day.

That's why every Fair Dinkum Scents candle is hand-poured using premium European soy wax.

A Renewable Choice

Soy wax is made from soybeans, making it a renewable, plant-based wax.

Paraffin wax, by comparison, is derived from petroleum.

While paraffin has been used in candle making for decades and remains a popular choice around the world, we wanted a wax that aligned with our goal of creating products with a little less impact on the environment.

A Cleaner Burn

One of the biggest reasons we love soy wax is the way it burns.

When burned correctly, soy wax generally produces less soot than paraffin wax. That means less black residue around the rim of your candle jar and fewer black marks on nearby walls or ceilings over time.

No candle is completely soot-free, which is why trimming your wick before each burn is still important, but soy wax is well known for its cleaner-burning characteristics.

Your home should be somewhere you can truly relax.

While quality candles made from both soy and paraffin can be enjoyed safely when burned according to the manufacturer's instructions, we simply feel more comfortable choosing a renewable, plant-based wax that burns cleanly and beautifully.
